The announcement was made in Bern by Chinese Commerce Minister Wang Wentao and Swiss President Guy Parmelin, who also signed a memorandum of understanding to mark this achievement.
The negotiations, which started in September 2024, wrapped up after five comprehensive rounds of discussions. The updated agreement promises expanded market opportunities in various sectors, including trade in goods and services, investment, and trade rules. Both nations emphasized that this new framework is designed to foster a more stable and predictable environment for businesses, thereby reinforcing long-term economic collaboration.
Originally, the China-Switzerland Free Trade Agreement was signed in 2013 and implemented in 2014. Before the upgraded agreement can be formally signed and enacted, both China and Switzerland must complete their respective domestic procedures.
