Taipei Mayor Chiang Wan-an has unveiled an ambitious NT$9.2 billion (US$288 million) initiative aimed at revolutionizing education with artificial intelligence over the next four years. The comprehensive plan is designed to modernize classrooms across the city, equipping students with the skills necessary to thrive in an AI-driven world. Key components of the project include the installation of smart screens in every classroom and the enhancement of digital learning platforms using AI-powered assistants.

A pivotal element of the initiative is the establishment of a dedicated AI Education Center at Beitou Shilin Technology Park. This center will play a crucial role in coordinating teacher training, developing curricula, and fostering collaboration between educational institutions and the technology industry. The initiative also plans to integrate more robotics, drones, and AI-powered technologies into the educational environment, providing students with hands-on experience in cutting-edge fields.

To further enrich the learning experience, the city aims to expand opportunities for students to engage with edge computing systems equipped with graphics processing units (GPUs). This hands-on approach is intended to deepen their understanding of AI technologies and their applications. The initiative places a strong emphasis not only on developing AI-related skills but also on promoting responsible technology use, enhancing digital literacy, and ensuring data privacy is upheld.

The upgraded digital learning platform is set to offer significant benefits for both students and teachers. It is designed to support independent learning among students while simultaneously reducing the administrative burden on teachers, such as exam grading. By alleviating these tasks, educators can focus more on teaching and engaging with students.
