Chinese President Xi Jinping has emphasized the importance of strengthening ties and enhancing cooperation with Egypt during his visit to Cairo, underscoring the enduring relationship between the two nations. President Xi and his wife, Peng Liyuan, were greeted by Egyptian President Abdel Fattah El-Sisi and his wife upon their arrival in the Egyptian capital. This visit coincides with the 70th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and Egypt.
In a statement released before his visit, Xi highlighted the robust relationship between the two countries, which has remained resilient despite shifts in the global landscape. He urged for renewed efforts to enhance the comprehensive strategic partnership between China and Egypt and to explore new areas for collaboration. Xi pointed out that both nations are pursuing significant national development objectives and should collaborate to align their development strategies.
Xi advocated for increased cooperation within the framework of the Belt and Road Initiative, focusing on practical projects that promise long-term economic advantages. He also called for expanded collaboration in sectors such as education, tourism, science and technology, healthcare, sports, and archaeology. Xi believes that stronger exchanges in these areas will deepen mutual understanding and fortify the bonds between the peoples of China and Egypt.
The Chinese leader stressed the importance of mutual support on major issues and the protection of shared interests. He described Egypt as a vital partner in enhancing cooperation between China and Arab nations, as well as between China and Africa. Xi emphasized the roles both countries play as members of the Global South and advocated for closer coordination on international matters, increased support for multilateral cooperation, and joint efforts to promote global peace and stability.
This visit is anticipated to further solidify the political and economic relations between Beijing and Cairo, creating new opportunities for collaboration in trade, infrastructure, technology, and other sectors. President Xi expressed China’s readiness to collaborate with Egypt to build on seven decades of diplomatic relations and to inject fresh momentum into their comprehensive strategic partnership.
