China’s foreign trade has shown remarkable growth in the first eight months of the year, with total imports and exports of goods reaching 34.78 trillion yuan, equivalent to $5.18 trillion. This represents a significant 17.6% increase compared to the same period last year. The rise in exports and imports is indicative of the country’s strengthening economic position in the global market.

Breaking down the figures, exports climbed by 14.6% to reach 20.17 trillion yuan, while imports saw an even more impressive surge of 22%, totaling 14.61 trillion yuan. This growth in trade reflects a robust demand for Chinese goods and a strong appetite for imports within the nation, underscoring a dynamic trade environment.

In August alone, the momentum of trade growth accelerated, with total imports and exports of goods increasing by 19.8% year-on-year, reaching 4.65 trillion yuan. During this month, exports experienced an 18.6% rise, while imports grew by 21.7%, showcasing sustained growth trends in both segments of trade.

Notably, both exports and imports have consistently recorded double-digit year-on-year growth for four consecutive months. Importantly, the growth rate of imports has surpassed that of exports for the past six months, signaling a shift in the trade dynamics where import demand has been particularly robust.
