Extending the trading hours of Taiwan’s stock market is not currently a priority, according to the Financial Supervisory Commission (FSC). Chairman Peng Jin-lung emphasized that any changes to the existing schedule, which runs from 9:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., would require significant public and industry backing before any implementation could be considered.

This statement comes as the Taiwan Stock Exchange (TWSE) explores the possibility of lengthening trading hours to 3:30 p.m., in an effort to align more closely with international markets. The exchange is optimistic that longer hours could boost market activity. However, discussions with brokerage firms are still ongoing to gauge the feasibility and potential impact of such a shift.

In the meantime, the TWSE has announced an adjustment to its odd-lot trading schedule. Starting at the end of this year, odd-lot trading will begin at 9:00 a.m., ten minutes earlier than the current start time of 9:10 a.m. Additionally, in a bid to enhance efficiency and liquidity, the exchange plans to reduce the order matching interval for odd-lot trades from five seconds to one second starting next year.
