Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy is prepared to meet face-to-face with Russian President Vladimir Putin to negotiate the future of Ukrainian territories currently under Russian control. The White House confirmed it is arranging this critical summit, which could take place in the coming days as part of a major U.S.-led peace initiative.

Following his meeting with President Donald Trump in Washington, Zelenskyy stated his intention to address the territorial dispute directly with his Russian counterpart. “The question of territory is a question that we will leave between me and Putin,” he was quoted as saying, signaling a willingness to engage in tough, direct negotiations on the most contentious issue of the war.

The push for this meeting has been driven by the Trump administration, which claims to have secured Putin’s agreement for the talks within a two-week period. While Russia’s foreign ministry has urged caution and called for meticulous preparation, the White House remains firm in its timeline. Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt said the U.S. government is actively working with both sides to make the meeting a reality.

While Zelenskyy focuses on the territorial dialogue with Putin, the broader issue of Ukraine’s security is being handled in coordination with international allies. NATO military leaders are discussing potential security guarantees. The U.S. has pledged not to deploy its own soldiers but has indicated that providing air support to Ukraine is an option being considered to bolster its defense capabilities.
