Permanent foreign residents in Taiwan will qualify for a NT$10,000 (US$328) cash handout under a new government program set to launch in October, pending legislative approval.
Premier Cho Jung-tai confirmed that holders of Alien Permanent Resident Certificates (APRC) will be included, ending uncertainty about their eligibility. Their inclusion raises the program’s total budget by NT$1 billion to NT$236 billion.
The handout is part of a broader resilience package aimed at supporting households amid external economic pressures. The initiative originated from opposition proposals, which expanded the package budget from NT$545 billion to NT$570 billion.
The Legislative Yuan is expected to review the budget next week. If approved, payments will begin within a month and continue for seven months.
