Taiwan’s Central Election Commission has confirmed that the 2026 municipal elections will be held on Saturday, November 28. The nationwide vote will decide the mayors, magistrates, and councilors across 22 administrative regions, including 16 counties and six major municipalities.
Candidate registration will be open from August 31 to September 4, with final candidate lists to be announced on October 16. The drawing of candidate numbers for ballot positions will take place on October 23, and official candidate announcements will follow on November 8. Public debates and policy presentations are expected between November 13 and 27.
According to the commission’s schedule, election results will be finalized on December 4, and certificates of election will be issued on December 18. Political parties, including the Democratic Progressive Party (DPP) and the Taiwan People’s Party (TPP), have begun unveiling their candidate slates, while the Kuomintang (KMT) is expected to announce its nominees in the coming months.
Among early contenders, TPP Chair Huang Kuo-chang has declared his bid for New Taipei mayor, while speculation continues over possible DPP candidates for Taipei and New Taipei. The upcoming elections are expected to shape Taiwan’s local governance and set the stage for future national political alignments.
